Aerodynamic sound generation in thermoviscous fluids: A canonical problem revisited

چکیده

Although the Lighthill–Curle acoustic analogy theory is formally exact, presence of linear source terms related to viscous stresses and non-isentropic density changes makes it unsuitable for studying aerodynamic sound generation in low Reynolds number thermoviscous flows. Here we use an extension Ffowcs Williams Hawkings formulation, with effects explicitly included, find analytical solution canonical problem radiation from a circular cylinder immersed heat-conducting fluid rotating sinusoidally about its axis. Existing published solutions are compared earlier null result explained. The new analysis reveals dominant at Mach numbers be unsteady dissipation rather than Reynolds-stress quadrupoles, unless parameter B=αc2/cp zero.

Experimental verification of the quasi-steady approximation for aerodynamic sound generation by pulsating jets in tubes.

Voice production involves sound generation by a confined jet flow through an orifice (the glottis) with a time-varying area. Predictive models of speech production are usually based on the so-called quasi-steady approximation. The flow rate through the time-varying orifice is assumed to be the same as a sequence of steady flows through stationary orifices for wall geometries and flow boundary c...

Quantum Canonical Transformations revisited

A preferred form for the path integral discretization is suggested that allows the implementation of canonical transformations in quantum theory. 1 Canonical Transformations in Quantum Theory Canonical transformations are of great utility in classical theory [Goldstein, 1980]; however they do not work so well in quantum theory, giving rise to anomalous (order h̄) potential like terms [Gervais an...

Parallel Computation in Hypersonic Aerodynamic Heating Problem

A parallel computational fluid dynamics code has been developed for the study of aerodynamic heating problem in hypersonic flows. The code employs the 3D Navier-Stokes equations as the basic governing equations to simulate the laminar hypersonic flow. The cell centered finite volume method based on structured grid is applied for spatial discretization. The AUSMPW+ scheme is used for the invisci...

Tsur Size – Sound Symbolism Revisited

In many of my writings I have argued that poetic images have no fixed predetermined meanings. In my 1992 book What Makes Sound Patterns Expressive?—The Poetic Mode of Speech Perception (originally published in 1987) I propounded the view that speech sounds do not have fixed predetermined symbolic values either.1 Poetic images as well as speech sounds are clusters of features, each of which may ...
